it’s not about age

if this past week has taught mi anything it’s this:

we know that life is precious, and time is fleeting,

and every day is a gift,

but,

we still go through life thinking one of two things:

either, we have all the time in world and say things like,

“maybe tomorrow.” or “when i get (fill in the blank).

or we think things like

“i don’t have time.” or “it’s too late.” or “i missed my chance.”

and so forth.

but truly living life is about,

avoiding drama,

being grateful,

mending fences,

pursuing passions,

being kind for no reason,

showing grace,

having compassion, and

loving unconditionally.

they aren’t something you “get around to.”

i never understood why older people quit celebrating birthdays.

i celebrate mine all month long because i know firsthand of people younger than myself, who never made it this far.

being here is worth celebrating.

in fact, as i sat at the celebration of life

for my 23-year-old niece and

witnessed how she lived her life each day with purpose,

i was reminded of something i’d forgotten…

it’s not about age.

what if you had only one day left on this earth..

would you do anything differently?

what would it be?

what were the last words you spoke to people?

who would you reach out to?

what regrets would you have?

what dreams did you let die?

what relationships were left broken or unresolved?

what would be said of you?

it’s never too late.

it’s not about age.

it’s about now. today.
